In the 23rd century, some 200 years after Earth was devastated by a nuclear holocaust, mankind now lives in small, isolated societies. Each of these communities are separated by vast stretches of wasteland and ruins, and each developing in divergent ways from others. One of these communities is the City of Domes which is technology advanced and no one was lacking physical comforts. One of the ways this lifestyle was maintained was when a person reached their 30th birthday they participated in a ritual called Carousel where they would be renewed and come back as an infant. However unknown to most this was simply ritual suicide. Some found out and attempted to run from it to a mythical place known as Sanctuary. To combat this problem there was the Sandmen, an elite force of policeman, whose purpose was the track down and kill the runners.
One of the Sandmen was Logan who was convinced by Jessica, a member of the underground, that the runners were right and the Sandmen were in the wrong so they set out to find Sanctuary. The city elders, all of whom are over 30, summon Francis, who was Logan's former best friend and partner, to bring back the two runners. The chase was thus on with Logan and Jessica along with an android, Rem, that joins their quest. The trio encounter diverse and strange remnants of human civilization both in cities and in the wilds beyond all while trying to avoid capture by Francis and his Sandmen.
The series was based on the Logan's Run novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson published in 1967. The 1976 feature film Logan's Run was also based on this novel. Nolan later wrote two sequels, Logan's World (1977) and Logan's Search (1980). He also wrote a novelette, Logan's Return, published as an e-book in 2001.
Unfortunately the Logan's Run TV series did not do well in the ratings and was canceled with only 14 episodes completed. Some sources say the last three episodes were not aired by some CBS stations. The complete series was released on DVD in the U.S. on April 10, 2012 by Warner Brothers. The DVD set was re-issued on January 11, 2020 by Warner Archives. The DVDs have English and French subtitles. There are no special features.
Credits are as listed in the DVD release. Things not in the on screen credits are in brackets.
