Included are these quote files:

  1. default.txt - some assorted quotes I have collected
  2. doctorwho.txt - quotes from the classic Doctor Who TV show
  3. holygrail.txt - quotes from the Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie
  4. startrek.txt - quotes from the classic Star Trek TV show
  5. starwars.txt - quotes from the original Star Wars movie
  6. xfiles.txt - quotes from The X-Files TV show

Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/Win7/Win8/Win10

  • Java runtime 1.5.0 or later

Linux

  • Java runtime 1.5.0 or later

Mac

  • Java runtime 1.5.0 or later

Installation

Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/Win7/Win8/Win10.

  1. Unzip the downloaded zip file
  2. Move the quotes_program folder to your documents folder or it can be placed on a drive such as c:\utilities\quotes_program or c:\quotes_program
  3. To run program double click GUIquotes.exe
  4. Optionally right click on GUIquotes.exe, select Create Shortcut, and drag this shortcut to your desktop

Linux

  1. Unzip the downloaded zip file
  2. Move the quotes_program directory to a directory in your /home path
  3. Make Linuxrun.sh executable (With a file manager/browser right click, select properties and under permissions make the file executable)
  4. To run program double click Linuxrun.sh

Mac

  1. Unzip the downloaded zip file
  2. Move the quotes_program folder to one of your folders
  3. Presently to run the program use the run manually method

Upgrading

Upgrading is the same for all operating systems. This procedure is only needed if you want to retain your settings or keep quote files you have added. To upgrade:

  1. Rename quotes_program to quotes_program-old
  2. Unzip the new program version zip file
  3. Move the settings.ini file from quotes_program-old to quotes_program
  4. Move any quote files you have added from from quotes_program-old/quotes to quotes_program/quotes
  5. After verifying the new program version is working quotes_program-old can be deleted

Uninstalling

To uninstall simply delete quotes_program. If the program was added to the start menu or startup files this will need to be removed. See this FAQ entry for details.
